This is a beautifully preserved September–October 1955 issue of GO: The Holiday and Travel Magazine, a stylish mid-century British periodical dedicated to aspirational travel, leisure, and sophisticated living.
The standout front cover is a striking mid-century modern illustration by renowned Polish-British designer Stan Krol (signed lower left). It features a bold, elegant composition: a large cluster of deep purple grapes morphing into the negative-space outline of a wine glass, with twisting golden vines and leaves against a rich olive-green background. The pink “GO” logo pops dramatically at the top, while the subtitle “the holiday and travel magazine” and price (3s 6d) sit neatly below — pure 1950s graphic sophistication evoking European wine regions, harvest season, and glamorous getaways.
The interior includes period travel features, destination guides, lifestyle articles, and full-colour advertisements — such as the charming Dolcis Logrollers shoe advert (shown in photos) promoting soft, hand-sewn American-style moccasins in new “Taffytone” colours, priced at 59/11 and designed by Sandler of Boston.
Condition: Vintage but solid — light edge wear, minor corner creasing, some surface rubbing and age-toning consistent with a 70-year-old newsprint magazine. Colors remain vibrant, no major tears or missing pages visible in photos. A lovely piece of 1950s design history, perfect for collectors of mid-century illustration, vintage travel ephemera, graphic art, or Stan Krol’s work.
Ideal for display, framing the cover, or adding authentic retro flair to a collection. A nostalgic slice of post-war British travel culture — ships worldwide.
