This is a key early compilation from the pioneering British space rock band Hawkwind, gathering standout tracks from their 1971–1974 United Artists era. Released in February 1977, it captures the group’s classic psychedelic, sci-fi-infused sound — heavy riffs, cosmic themes, spoken-word interludes, and extended jams — that influenced punk, metal, and electronic music.

The front cover features epic fantasy artwork by Mark Wilkinson (signed “M.W. ’77” in the corner): a towering, armored warrior-sorcerer figure (evoking ancient mysticism with a trident staff, horned helmet, and “Om” symbol on his robe) stands atop a jagged mountain peak at sunset, while a cloaked, winged figure (possibly a shaman or alien entity) leaps dramatically in the foreground. The landscape blends misty peaks, forests, and glowing paths under a dramatic sky. The band name HAWKWIND appears in metallic, futuristic lettering inside a hexagonal badge, with MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE below in bold chrome-style text.

The back cover continues the atmospheric mountain vista (a massive natural rock arch/bridge over a valley at dusk, with winding paths and distant peaks), listing the 7-track selection (compiled from previous albums and live recordings):

Side 1

1.  Master of the Universe (6:35) – from In Search of Space (1971), produced by Hawkwind & George Chkiantz at Air Studios, London

2.  Brainstorm (11:40) – from Doremi Fasol Latido (1972), produced by Hawkwind at Rockfield (Dave & Del), Monmouth

Side 2

1.  Sonic Attack (2:55) – from Space Ritual live (1973), produced/mixed by Anton Matthews & Vic Maile

2.  Orgone Accumulator (10:00) – from Space Ritual live (1973), recorded at Liverpool/Edmonton, produced by Hawkwind

3.  It’s So Easy (5:47) – live from “Psychedelic Warriors” (Sundown, Edmonton, 1972)

4.  Lost Johnny (3:26) – from Hall of the Mountain Grill (1974), produced by Hawkwind & Doug Bennett at Olympic Studios

Sleeve concept, art direction, and illustration by Paul Henry (front) and Mark Wilkinson (additional credits noted). The gatefold-style laminated sleeve shows typical 1970s wear (edge scuffs, ring wear, corner rubs, some fading), but the iconic artwork remains striking and collectible.

A essential entry point to Hawkwind’s early cosmic voyage — perfect for fans of space rock, prog/psych, Lemmy-era Hawkwind, or vintage UK heavy psych vinyl.

The vinyl is housed in its original laminated picture sleeve (gatefold design with artwork and credits on the reverse), showing age-appropriate wear consistent with a 1970s collectible. Please expect some wear and scratches to the sleeve.
